Update from Vinay - May 12, 2008

Hello everyone!

Once again sorry about the delay in updating all of you especially after the PBS documentary. Well as most my already know since my relapse in January 2008 after BMT, I received a dose of mylotarg which placed me in remission. Since then I have been battling graft versus host disease and multiple complications that have placed me in the ICU three times now. The first time for acute kidney and liver failure and the second, third time for excessive blood loss from the gut. I was successfully treated for all ICU visits, the last stay I required an interventional radiology procedure to stop the internal bleeding. After the procedure I was transferred back to the regular floor and my diet was slowly advanced to normal! I am doing well so far and will be transferring to a physical rehab center here in Boston to get my overall strength back. I hope to be home for good in 2-3 weeks! The rehab facility will provide 3 hours of physical therapy seven days a week, quite intense but should be better for me in the long run.

While I was in the ICU a lot has happened in our community, I want to send my love to Sameer and his family. Please if you need anything let us know, let the community know, we will always be there for you. Also there is a recent article in the Hindu written about Team Sameer and Team Vinay,

Also HAPPY BELATED MOTHERS DAY!!!
WISH ALL OF YOU LOVE!

I am thinking about you and

I am thinking about you and your family. I am just watching the PBS special after taping the program over a month ago. I am a breast cancer survivor, and know about some of your struggles. You and your family are in my prayers and I see that you are a very strong person and you are blessed with love and support from family and friends.

Dear Vinay and Rashmi, My

Dear Vinay and Rashmi,
My heart goes out to the both of you. I saw this quote that made me think of you guys: "According to recognized aeronautical tests, the Bumble Bee cannot fly because of the shape and weight of his body in relationship to his total wing area. The Bumble Bee does not know this; so he goes ahead and flies anyways."-Anonymous
You two are amazing. My prayers are with you.

-Madhu Ramanath

P.S. I have a couple of book recommendations for you Vinay- 1)"My Horizontal Life"-by Chelsea Handler: absolutely hilarious, I couldn't put it down; it's an autobiographical book about all of her one-night stands, and 2) "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius"-by Dave Eggers: a Pulitzer nominee, also hilarious but also profoundly moving and poignant.

I hope you're on a steep and speedy uphill to recovery

That boy is my inspiration

For few, life is a perfect constellation. Every star is a guiding post to the next happy destination. For others life is a cluster-f and all they get is a pair of functioning retina to figure it out. Staring at the peppered sky trying to carve the right path takes courage and convinction. Clearly you are fighting a battle of celestial proportion. Keep it going brother.
PS: During my recent conversation with God I asked Him if He could do anything for you. God said, "That boy is my inspiration"

I saw your story in the PBS special and have been checking pretty much on a daily bases for any updates so I'm really pleased to hear that you are trekking along. It seems rather odd to feel so connected to strangers but your journey has touched so many people and I'm sending you and your loved ones positive, healthy energy and many many blessings. Your positive outlook and strength is inspiring.
BTW - what a beautiful photo of you and your wife.
Please remember in times of pain that even people you don't even know, are thinking of you and wanting nothing but the best for you.
All the best!

Wow

I just happened to pop through the site today, Veece, and saw your update. Really glad to hear you're on your way out of the hospital. It's been a long time since I saw you out in NY, but we'll probably be coming out east again towards the end of the summer, and will definitely come through Boston and see you. Rach and I both wish you a speedy (and permanent) recovery.
